Quiet Morning At Ellerslie

Owing lo several Ellerslie horses who raced at Te Rapa being sent on to Te Arolia for the meeting which opens there on Saturday, there was not as much work as usual at headquarters this morning. No. 1 grass track was open for fast work, the best efforts being those of Land Girl, over half a mile, and Miss Appellant and Tooley Street over a round.

Chelandry went away- from the sixfurlong post, increasing the pace over the last half-mile, which he ran in 51 2-5 seconds.

Benny Belle was timed to run her last half-mile in 52 seconds, doing it well.

Flcotwind got to the end of five furlongs in 1.4 1-5. She was joined by Aero King ever the last half-mile, the pair coming home from there in 49 2-5 seconds.

Mintlaw and Royal Abb reeled off half a mile in similar time.

Glen Abb completed five furlongs in 1.4 3-5, being assisted over the last three furlongs by Ranier in 36 4-5 secs. Miss Appellant finished several lengths clear of Tooley Street over a round in 1.49 2-5. The last six furlongs took 1.17, and the final half-mile 51 4-5 seconds. It was an attractive gallop. and Miss Appellant, who had a couple of stone the worst of the weight, impressed by her effort.

Mai de Mer. after schooling over hurdles, completed six furlongs in 1.18 1-5, the first three in 39 seconds. Land Girl, having her first gallop since being recommissioned, reeled off half a mile in 49 seconds, the'first furlong being covered in 12 3-5 secs. Electric Spear and Jolie Dance did strong work over six furlongs, taking 1.22 2-5.

Captain Bruce and Baldric were not unduly bustled over a round in 1.59, the last six furlongs taking 1.22 4-5. Tea Gong impressed more than Norse Lady at the conclusion of four furlongs, which occupied 51 4-5 seconds. Huntingmore ran two furlongs in 25 4-5 seconds. Full o’ Scotch cantered round to the three-furlong post, and came home in 39 seconds.

Llandaff hit out nicely while running a similar distance in 40 seconds. He travelled very smoothly, aiVd is a promising two-year-old. On the tan, Tybalt worked over a couple of rounds, sprinting his last half-mile in 58 seconds.

Mai de Mer gave a pleasing display over two hurdles, but when tried again he hit the first, dislodging his rider. However, he later jumped them well. Electric Spear and Jolie Dance were sent over two hurdles, giving a satisfactory exhibition. They ai’e to make their first appearance as hurdlers at Te Aroha.
