Malagigi Inquiry: Wiggins Fined £5

[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND. This Day. The adjourned inquiry into the running of Malagigi in the Storey Memorial Handicap at Te Rapa on Saturday was concluded yesterday. The stewards expressed • dissatisfaction with the manner in which H. N. Wiggins rode Malagigi, and considered that he showed lack of judgment and incompetence in not securing a better position along the back during the race. The stewards were of the opinion that there was an element of doubt about the matter, and decided to take no further action. The stewards considered that Wiggins had no right to punish the horse by hitting him on the head in the way it was alleged he did in the homo sti'etch, resulting in an injury to the horse’s eye, and decided to impose a fine of £5. Wiggins stated that he had touched Malagigi on the side of the head with the whip in an endeavour to keep him from boring out.
