Hitler-Mussolini-Franco Front

(Received 2.0 p.m.) ROME, February 19. It is reported that Herr Hitler, Signor Mussolini and General Franco will confer in a Northern Italian city in order to establish a common front on the Spanish problem. A despatch from Burgos says the French representative with the Rebels, M. Berard, after his arrival from Paris, had a two-hours’ interview with General Jordana. Rebel Foreign Minister, after which he said that the Rebel Government was willing to facilitate the resumption of railway and other services, but that the attitude to political issues was more reserved. Nevertheless, he was satisfied of a friendly reception, and had hopes of a satisfactory outcome of his mission. Er. Negrin, Loyalist Premier, and General Miaja, leader of the Government forces in Central Spain, conferred at Cartagena. A later message from Burgos says that the Rebel Government has requisitioned 230 ships under a decree authorising employment of the Rebel merchant fleet for purposes of defence.

Agricultural services have taken over 30.000 deserted farms in Catalonia, and are developing them with captured material. The normal railway service from France to Spain, through Hendaye and Irun, is being resumed on Thursday.
