Hurled around a pulley when his hand was caught in the belting, Mr. Ernest Piggott, aged 58. married, of Buckland, had his right arm torn off when adjusting machinery in a sawmill at Buckland on Saturday. Mr. Piggott was the unsuccessful Labour candidate for the Franklin seat at the last election, and is a wellknown farmer in the Franklin district. Mr. Piggott operates a sawmill not far from his home. He went to the mill at about eight o’clock on Saturday morning, and an hour and a half later his wife and three sons heard him calling for aid. They found him approaching the house with only the stump of bis right arm remaining. Mr. Piggott was admitted to the Auckland Hospital, and his condition last night was serious.
