Hon. R. Semple In Whangarei
After inspecting the Onerahi aerodrome yesterday afternoon. Hon R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, motored to Parua Bay Hotel, where he was entertained to afternoon tea.
Informal welcomes were given by Messrs J. G. Barclay, M.P., Mr A. Clarke (deputy chairman of the Whangarei County Council) and the Mayor, Mr W. Jones, who is also chairman of the "Whangarei Airport Board.
Replying, Mr Semple expressed thanks on behalf of Mrs Semple, the visiting party and himself for the remarks made and he hospitality extended, especially mentioning the hostess, Mrs D. L. Ross.
Referring to the achievements in aerodrome construction at Onerahi, the Minister said: “We want to see progress wherever we go, development upon which we can look back with satisfaction and pride. We are here to build New Zealand.”
Returning to Whangarei, Mr Semple visited the State Housing settlement at Bobbie’s subdivision, and the Whangarei Falls, receiving several small deputations in the evening.
