Northlanders’ Diamond Wedding

Celebrating their diamond wedding today in Palmerston North are Mr and Mrs A. J. Jacobs.

Mrs Jacobs was born in Whangarei 75 years ago and was baptised in the Methodist Church, by the Rey. Gorn'c. Her father, Mr H. J. Alderslade, arrived from England 76 years ago, Mrs Jacobs being born the following year. Mr Alderslade came out with Sir Osborne Gibbs and took up building, some of his structures still being used. For many years Mrs Jacobs lived with her father on the Thames goldfields, where she experienced all the hardships and rigours of the prospector’s precarious existence.
