One of the questions addressed to Mr Nash at the Importers’ Conference yesterday was whether there was any intention of compensating firms that had been put out of business by the Import restrictions. He did not know whether it would be practicable to work out a compensation period because he had to lake this into account—even if they were not going the road they were going today, they would still bo compelled, lo restrict imports. Imports into the Dominion during the next 12 months had to be restricted.
