Kaitaia Volunteer Brigade In Action
Complete %e-fighting apparatus and equipment has arrived for the Kaitai’a Fire Brigade. At the first practice, the volunteers, under the guidance of Superintendent K. Knight, went through their routines in the handling of the apparatus fn a creditable manner. Uniforms Needed.
The brigade still has need of uniforms and an engine before the station is fully equipped. An endeavour will be made in the next few weeks to raise funds, and, in view of the valuable service the volunteers will be able to render the community, a good response to the appeal is expected. The Kaitaia Town Board has already donated a substantial subsidy.
The station, which is situated opposite Taaffe’s garage, is in control of the following officers: Superintendent, K. Knight; Deputy, H. Wilkinson; First Foreman, E. Clark; Second Foreman, R. Hicks; Secretary, B. McKinnon. Fire Bell on Hand,
A bell is on hand and will be erected at the station shortly. The town is fortunate in its water supply, a pressure of 85 lbs being maintained throughout the town area. With the ultimate provision of a fire engine and uniforms achieved, Kaitaia will have available an efficient fire-fighting unit which will be another evidence of progress in the North.
