Houses Crumble Under Gunfire
(Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, January 25. The roar of artillery is growing louder, and houses in Barcelona are crumbling under the rebel fire. The Loyalists are continuing to retreat, and are endeavouring to form a new line. Colonel Romero has been appointed officer commanding the city defences. The Moroccans have occupied the outer suburbs, and the flight of panicstricklm inhabitants of the city continues. The harbour is crowded with boats laden to the gunwales with refugees, trying desperately to board the few merchant vessels remaining in port. Scores, too heavily crowded, overturned. Ambulances are rushing back and forth in the streets. Shelling and air raids are continuous.
