(Received 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, January 25

At least £130,000 is already available for relief in the bush fire areas. Each mail from New Zealand brings contributions to the “Argus” Fund. The sum of £4 was collected among the guests at the Chateau Tongariro. A Royal Commission has been appointed by the Government to inquire into the causes of fires and methods of prevention and will begin hearing evidence on Tuesday. The Government is also providing £40,000 for relief roadworks in the fire areas, to assist men who have lost their jobs.
