Big Bids for Rimutaka’s Salvage
AUCKLAND. This Day. A salvage sale, on behalf of the underwriters, of goods dajnaged by fire On the' steamer Rimutaka attracted about 300 buyers today. They were mostly dealers and small, shopkeepers, Opening bids were moderate, but dealers quickly responded to competition, especially for forthcoming winter requirements, such as fur lined coats for women and small winter hats. A case of coats started at £5 and ran up to £67/10/-.' Several cases of women’s hats, starting similarly, brought ;iip to £36 per case. There was also a very brisk demand for knitting wool, with discrimination favouring fashionable colours, which made a difference in the prices paid of 6v6r £2O per case.
