Morning and afternoon teas, at the Auckland hospital cost £BOO a year. “There has been gross extravagance in the Auckland hospital,” said Mr. Allan J. Moody, chairman, at a meeting of the hospital board last night, when members were considering a motion by Mr. J. Sayegh that the heads of the departments under the control of the board should be asked to report on the possibility of reducing expenditure. Mr. Moody said that a considerable saving had been made by reducing the number of orderlies from 106 to 97. Engineers and stokers had been supplied with five pints of milk a day. There was also a waste in bread. 1 The diet supervisor, Miss A. J. Ross, said that the question of morning teas should be approached carefully. If cut off completely it would be found that the staff. in some departments were helping themselves from the wards.” The motion was carried. .. . .
