Italy Building 170 Underwater Craft

(Received 10 ,a.m.) LONDON, January 23, Italy laid down 20 submarines in 1938, the vessels ranging from 600 tons to 1461 tons, says the Rome correspondent of the “News Chronicle.” Italy’s submarine fleet now totals 125. The objective is 170 vessels by 1942. The largest of the new submarines carry the unprecedented number of 14 torpedo tubes.
