E. Collins Makes First Century In His Farewell Game
CONTINUING THU SECOND ROUND OF THE SENIOR COMPETITIONS, ' WHANGAREI CRICKETERS WERE AGAIN FAVOURED WITH FINE WEATHER; ON SATURDAY. High scoring of the season, was a feature of the games at the Reclamation ground, and particular attention was drawn to E. Collins, who hit up the first century in Whangarei cricket this season. Playing hfs farewell innings befor e leaving for Okaihau, Collins went through to reach 125 after an innings full of good strokes and missed chances. He placed six possible catches into the field, but it was not until the seventh was held that his bat ceased action, 1 He was chief scorer in Nomads’ big tally of 37 Tor n?ne wickets. Whangarei replied with 36 for the loss of one wicket at the call of time. ' On No. 2 ground Onerahi batted against poor fielding to compile 220, to which Services replied with 108 for the loss of seven wickets. Saturday’s senior B matches were the closest witnessed this year*. Albion and Services vainly attempted to play for a draw and in both cases the flnal issue depended on a matter of minutes. L. Ball’s hurricane strokes took Kamo past Maungatapere’s score with only four minutes to spare.
