OBITUARY
one or tne besi-Known descendants of the Nova Scotian settlers at Waipu, Mr Donald William McKenzie, passed away in his 84th year this morning. His father was one of the first migrants to land at Waipu, coming in the second ship, the Highland Lass. Like most of the early settlers, Mr McKenzie spent his younger days in the kauri bush and later took up farming. Long Period With County. For 25 years he was surfaceman for the Waipu riding of the Whangarei County Council, retiring from this position when he was past 80. Mr McKenzie had never known a day’s illness in his long, active life until he became suddenly ill about three weeks ago. . He attended the Waipu sports on New Year’s Day and was then in his usual good health. His death occurred this morning in the Whangarei District Hospital. Varied Interests. A devoted churchman, Mr McKenzie had attended a service on the Sunday prior to his fatal illness. He always took a keen interest in the Waipu Agricultural Society’s affairs, Although not a local body member, Mr McKenzie had always been interested in such matters.
Mr McKenzie is survived by his wife, Jhree sons and four daughters. The sons are Messrs Richard McKenzie, Waiuku, Allan McKenzie and Henry McKenzie, and the daughters Mrs Ralph, Mrs T. Ewen, Waipu, Miss Jessie and Miss Nelta McKenzie, of Waipu. The funeral will leave the residence, Waipu, for the Wafpu Cemetery tomorrow afternoon.
