Transport Department regulations stipulate the necessity for all forms of trailers being certified as fit for the roads. Even a dog-box, if it is mounted on wheels separate from the actual car wheels, must carry a warrant of fitness. Enforcement of this regulation is not overlooked, as was shown in a recent court case in Whangarei. On that occasion Mr. F. Watters, Transport Department traffic officer, was successful in obtaining a conviction against a carrier who did not have a warrant of fitness for his trailer. Mr. Watters explained to the court that the regulation concerning warrants for trailers was not generally known.
