Maori Admits Wilful Damage
Wilful damage lo a tank and a cart at Pipiwai was admitted by James Herewini in the Magistrate’s Court
this morning before Mr J. Molding, S.M.
Sergeant A. Bisset stated that defendant was employed on a housing scheme. He had taken a cart behind a house and let it go down a hill, where it was smashed. Ho had then damaged and tipped over a tank. The tank was valued at £4 15/- and the cart £4.
Defendant had been before the court before, said Sergeant Bisset. “Take That Look Off.’’
“You had better take that look off your face,’’ said Mr Molding tc defendant. “This is no laughing matter. You have a bad record and I suppose you are the ringleader m these incidents.
“The boys I have just dealt with in the Children’s Court are decent boys, and I am sure you were responsible for their action. Words are not much good in a case like this. You are a disgrace.”
Defendant was fined £1 on the charge of damaging the tank, and was convicted and discharged on the other count. His share of expenses, plus the fine, amounted to £8 14/7.
