Local Bodies Must Use Dominion Materials
Local bodies undertaking Scheme 13 work must use New Zealand materials as much as possible. Where it is found that ,n local body is not complying with this stipulation. cancellation of the subsidy will follow. Information to this effect, was contained in the letter received, from the Labour Department by the Whangarci Harbour Board yesterday. Immediate Cancellation. It. had been ascertained, said the department that imported materials were being used where New Zealand products would suffice. District labour officers were instructed to keep in constant review works undertaken in their districts to sec that the condition regarding non-use of imported materials was complied with. Where ■ imported materials were used, the local body would have to furnish an explanation, and immediate cancellation of the subsidy would result where sufficient excuse was not offering. Special consideration must be given where pipes for sewerage and water schemes were being used, said the department. Most of this material was imported, and was generally used in place of New Zealand products.
