Ontario’s Premier To Take Lessons In Australia

(Received 12.30 p.m.) TORONTO, December 16. Mr M. Hepburn. Premier of Ontario, announces that he will sail for Australia shortly after the New Year to study the Commonwealth and social legislation. He will be accompanied by the Works Minister, Mr Colin Campbell, and- Mr Chester Walters, Deputy-Provincial Treasurer.

The announcement followed the Premier’s vigorous criticism of the financial policy of the Dominion Prime Minister, Mr W. L. Mackenzie King, as merely drifting. Mr Hepburn demands the immediate refunding of the National Debt, predicting bankruptcy within three years if this is not done.

He declares: “Australia is reported to have found the real solution, and we are going over there to find out.” The visit is regarded as another step in the open warfare between Mr Hepburn and the Prime Minister, which crystalised in Mr Hepburn’s declaration that Mr Mackenzie King is unable to lead the party in a solution of the economic problems.
