Cigarette Paper-Making Requires License

I Per Press Association. Copyright .l WELLINGTON, This Day.

The industry of the manufacture of cigarette papers is to be one subject to the licensing provisions of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936.

A notice to this effect was published in last night’s Gazette by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan.

“I have declared this industry to be a licensed one,” said Mr Sullivan, in an interview, “for the purpose of holding the present position as regards the number of units mahufacturing cigarette papers in New Zealand until such time as the Bureau of Industry has completed Certain investigations regarding this industry in the Dominion.

“Those at present engaged in the industry are exempted under the notice from applying to the bureau for licenses until January 1, 1940, or such earlier or later date as may be decided.

“Meanwhile, it will be necessary for any person contemplating the manufacture of cigarette papers to apply to the Bureau of Industry for a license.”
