Gloom in Berlin
(Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, September 28. As troops march through Berlin there is not the slightest ’ sign of enthusiasm. The crowds are gloomy and silent. A message from Strasbourg says that 80,000 out of 200,000 civilians have left. Half the shops are closed, and the hotels are deserted. The refugees are heading for the Vosges mountains and inland towns. The Australian Railways Union has decided to give £250 to help the striking miners, and to impose a compulsory levy of 2/- ,a member, which will realise about £1740.
