Hakaru

The September meeting of the Hakaru Women's Institute proved one of the most pleasant and successful afternoons yet held by the branch. The attendance was also one of the largest. The competition, hairpin work, was won by Mrs D. Bowmar (Tara), with a handsome cushion. Mrs Cartwright being second, with a baby’s quilt. A daffodil competition was won by Mrs Mayes. “Tailing the pig” proved very amusing. On account of sickness the Hakaru Centre group was unable to entertain in its turn, and two members, Mrs O. Stewart and Mrs H. Brown, obliged with vocal solos. Mrsi Stewart also led community singing, .The hostesses v/ere Mrs Mason, Mrs Simpson, Mrs Tantrum and Miss 01wyn Tantrum.
