The death has occurred of Mrs Caroline Ellen fitting, of ; Mt. Albert, at the age of 90 years. Mrs lifting was born at Lynn Regis, England, and arrived in New Zealand in 1865. She is survived by three sons and six daughters.
Mr J. Crompton (president) and Mr N, H, Dunkley (secretary), of the Northland Rugby League, left today for Auckland to discuss League matters with officials of the New Zealand League Council.
With his departure to take up a new position at Tauranga, Mr C. Rowe, goods transport officer at the Whangarei Railway Station for several years, was yesterday made the recipient of the presentation of a fountain pen and a set of brushes from his fellow staff members. The presentation was performed by the stationmaster, Mr M. Curran.
The retirement from the public service of Mr S. J. Smith, late Resident Commissioner of the Cook Islands, is announced. Mr Smith is retiring on superannuation at his own request after a long and arduous official eer, extending over nearly 40 years, the last 23 years having been associated with island territories, of which he has a unique knowledge.
