Land’s End Leaves Tomorrow

Having been alongside the Town Wharf at Whangarei since early Tuesday morning, Captain H. Jeffery’s South African ketch-rigged yacht Land’s End will leave for the. Bay of Islands tomorrow en route for Tonga. As Captain Jeffery wishes to navigate the harbour in daylight the vessel will probably leave on the rising tide some time between 9 a.m. and midday. Captain Jeffery has been a busy man since his arrival in Whangarei. A few hours after berthing on Tuesday he attended the Rotary Club’s luncheon, where he gave an address, and on the evening of the same day spoke to members of the Whangarei Cruising Club and the general public at the screening of the film of his round-the-world voyage. This morning he visited the Whangarei High School and spoke to the pupils. Later this morning Captain and Mrs Jeffery, and members of the crew of the Land’s End, were taken on a motor tour to Waipoua reserve forest as the guests of Mr J. Morgan. The next port of call of the Land’s End will be Russell, where she will spend no more than a few days prior to sailing for the warmer climes of the South Seas, from which she will return to Auckland in November.
