Ail Blacks Injured In Car Accident
(Received noon.) SIDNEY, August 9. It is reported! from Canberra tonight that a large car carrying several All Blacks and two referees was overturned 15 miles from the capital city.
The New Zealanders, Taylor (fullback) and Saxton (half-back) received bruises. Taylor will be unable to play against Canberra tomorrow, but it is hoped both will be fit enough to play in the third test on Saturday. None of the other occupants of the vehicle was hurt.
The Australian test team engaged in strenuous training in Sydney today. Carpenter, who is suffering from leg soreness, did not participate. Rankin, who played so well in the second test, pulled a muscle, which will probably keep him out of the third test. The Queensland player, Monti, has had to withdraw from Saturday’s game. He will be replaced by F. Hutchinson, who played well in the first test.
After a civic reception, the All Blacks were taken on a sight-seeing tour. The Government entertained, them last night at dinner, when the ActingMinister of the Interior, Mr Thompson, praised the sportsmanship of the All Blacks. He said: “Great as many All Black touring sides have been, this is probably the greatest.” Public servants and employees of business houses at Canberra have been given a holiday to see the match this afternoon.
