Truck Endangered At Town Wharf
A truck owned by Mr. R. Edge, at 7 o'clock last night, swung round the corner from Walton Street, and the two wheels on the right hand side went over the edge of the embankment. The truck, however, did not plunge into the water, being held by the tailboard catching on the concrete of tine wharf.
An eye-witness said it was raining at the time of the mishap, and visibility was poor. In swinging out to miss the kerb, the driver apparently misjudged the width of the road.
A truck was obtained and endeavours were made to tow the stranded vehicle to safety. Terrific strain was put on the ropes, which parted ahd let the nose of the truck slide down the 'embankment into the water. With considerable difficulty, the vehicle was got back onto the road, and was able to drive off under its own power.
The spot is a particularly dangerous one, and this is not the first occasion that a vehicle has met with a mishap there, A few weeks ago a motor car was in similar difficulties.
