World Cruise Film Shown

More than 200 Whangarei residents gathered in the Royal Hall last night when Captain Jeffery, owner-skipper of the yacht Land’s End, at present in Whangarei in the course of a round-the-world tour, showed an interesting moving film depicting the highlights of his voyage. Commodore A. McKenzie, of the Whangarei Cruising Club, introduced the speaker, with him being the chairman of ■•'.he Whangarei Harbour Board, Mr. J. A. Finlayson. Captain Jeffery gave an interesting resume of his trip from Durban since last September, and followed this up with a 3000-foot film of his voyage from Durban to New Zealand. He already come 17,000 miles, and the rest of the cruise was estimated to take him another 16,000'miles, he said.

Particular mention, was made of the Hautaki Gulf, which Captain Jeffery described as the best yachting harbour in the world, and something New Zealand should be proud of.

At the conclusion of the film, Captain Jefferjr was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

The filming was made possible by the use of Mr .C. R. Lovatt’s cinematagraph projector. At the conclusion of the performance, Captain Jeffery, Mrs. Jeffery and members of the crew of the (Land’s End were entertained by the members of the' Cruising Club.

The presentation of a club pennant and badge to the Visiting skipper was made by Commodore McKenzie, while Captain Jeffery was also made an honorary member of the club.
