Germans First And Always
(Received 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 30
In his first political speech in Germany made at the National Gymnastic Festival at Breslau, at which 40,000 representatives of German minorities in Europe and America are present, Herr Hehlein, leader of the Sudeten Germans, acknowledged Herr Hitler as leader of the Germans inside and outside the Reich. He emphasised that this meeting of Germans from all over the world proved better than words that there again existed a great German nation. As Germans, they took seriously their obligations to the State to which they belonged, said Herr Henlein, but, while being nationals of various Powers, they remained German citizens and voluntarily accepted the German nation’s laws.
Herr Kundt, leader of the Parliamentary Sudeten Group, has addressed questions to the Czech Prime Minister, Dr. Hodza, asking whether the Government still stands upon the principles laid down in the Nationality Statute; whether the draft bill is definite; and when the final texts of all the Government proposals, together with a written reply to the Sudeten memorandum on June 8, Is to be submitted. “Does the Government intend continuing its conversations with the Sudeten Germans, or does it consider Viscount Runciman’s mission as mediator supersedes them,” Herr Kundt asks.
