Hitler’s Snub To Czech Flag
(Received 3 p.m.) LONDON, July 31
The Breslau correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that on seeing the approach of the Czechoslovakian flag borne by three Sudetens, during the procession of 200,000 athletes at the National Gymhastic Festival. Herr Hitler turned his back, and talked with his entourage until the flag passed.
The Czech Government gave special permission for the attendance of a Sudeten German delegation.
A procession of 40,000 ended in an amazing scene, the marchers breaking ranks and surging round Herr Hitler’s dais.
Herr Henlein. looked on apparently uncertain whether to be annoyed by the delegation’s lack of discipline, or pleased at its enthusiasm.
German delegations attended from all parts of the world, including exGerman South-West Africa, the United States, Memel, Poland, Rumania and South America.
Herr Hitler shook hands with every South-West African and United States delegate.
Herr Hitler made his snub of the Czech flag most obvious. As the flag was almost opposite the dais he completely turned and immediately the flag passed he returned and flung out his 'arm in salute to the marchers. Scarcely anyone failed to notice the snub, which was greeted with roars of appreciation.
