Hikurangi Finalists In Two Cedes Tomorrow

Team: - from Hikurangi will figure tomorrow in what are virtually the finals of both the Whahgarei Rugby and League senior championships. Rugby champions for the past three seasons, Hikurangi put themselves in an almost impregnable position again this year and would have clinched the issue early in the second round had a penalty kick at goal cleared the bar instead of striking it a couple of inches too low. In recent matches, teams lower on the ladder have shown much improved form, reaching a climax when in the last series of club fixtures. Kamo drew with the leaders. With two games to go in the second round, points in the championship now stand as follows: —Hikurangi 16. City 12. Old Boys 11. ’Karamea 4. Kamo 1. Codling And Gibson Gut. Hikurangi will be much weakened for the remainder of the season by the absence of their two most brilliant inside backs—Codling and Gibron—■who are both out of action following injuries. However, to lose their grip on the competition, the team will have to be beaten outright in its two remaining fixtures. City, the only other team in the hunt, will bo fielding a strong side at Rugby Park tomorrow, and are confident of reversing the first round result, which was 16—8 in favour of Hikurangi. ’Karamea will try conclusions with Old Boys on No. 2 ground, also at 3 p.m... while Kamo will meet a senior B team at Kamo. The senior B representatives will meet Otamatea at Maungaturoto. ' Rugby club teams for tomorrow will bo:— Hora Hora juniors.—Carter, Amos, Fainter. Quigg, Bevington.
