Brilliant Indians Outplay Southland
INVERCARGILL, This Day
A large crowd saw the Manavadar Indian team defeat Southland by 8 to 0 in a game in which the visitors by positional play and clever stickwork outclassed the opposition. Though the surface of the ground was slippery after a frost, the game was played at a fast pace throughout, and the Indians were freqquently applauded for their dribbling runs. Abdul Latif. right inner, was the outstanding forward, scoring six goals. The Southland forwards never had a chance to settle down, and when the forwards did make a combined move it usually broke down at the opposing half line. Abrahams was caked on to save only once during the match. The Indians’ first goal came within a minute or two of the start, Shahabuddin centring for Feroz Khan to score. Southland was handicapped when Sharp, centre-half, received a severe knee injury and ho was practically a passenger for the rest of the game.
Abdul Latif scored twice in the first half, and Ahmed Khan- once to make the half-time score: Indians 4, Southland 0.
In the second half of the game, the Indians had the better of the play and N. Poole .the Southland goalie, put up a great display, stopping difficult shots time and again. The score would otherwise have been much higher. Abdul Latif scored all four goals in the second half, a feature of the play being the team work among the Indians. Their short passing left the Southland halves standing occasionally. They used the scoop shot to advantage, but were frequently penalised for sticks and obstruction.
Metal teapots, when not used for some time, are apt to become musty. This may be prevented by dropping a lump of sugar into the pot before putting it away. The sugar absorbs all dampness.
