Midnight Plunge Into Town Wharf Basin
Four men in a sedan car had a miraculous escape from drowning at a late hour last night, when their vehicle somersaulted into the full tide at the Town Wharf basin. As the car capsized over the end of the wharf, the front door on the driver’s side swung open, enabling the four occupants to make a hasty escape. After being parked for some minutes, the driver apparently misjudged his distance when swinging out to proceed along the quay. Reaching the side of the wharf, the car capsized and plunged into the tide, only its taillight showing where it had vanished into the muddy water. Clambering out through the driver’s door, all four men were able to reach dry land, little the worse for their midnight dip. Apart from broken window panes, there was little damage done to the car, which was dragged out of the water later.
