Private Hospitals Should Be Replaced
[Special To "Northern Advocate ”J WELLINGTON. This Day. "Recognising the good service that many small private hospitals have given in the past,” says the report of
the committee inquiring into maternity services in New Zealand, “nothing should be done to injure them, but nevertheless, when the present licensees retire tire perpetration of such small hospitals should be discouraged and every endeavour made by a combination of interests (o establish more efficient hospitals of modern design and large enough to allow of fullyefficienl staffing."
It is recommended that the numerous unregistered homes, in which a midwife is allowed to take one case at a time without inspection should be subject to definite regulations, as are private maternity hospitals.
