Against this, however, there had been an increase of about £3O in the cost of green maintenance, made up of about £2O i extra remuneration to the greenkeeper and about £lO extra for earth, manures, etc. President’s Review. “The season opened auspiciously early in October, under perfect weather conditions.” stated the president in his report. “The membership has been maintained at approximately the same number as that of the previous season, a pleasing feature being the large number of young aspirants to the ranks of Drake’s favourite game.” Speaking of club competitions, Mr Ross said that champion fours were included in the competitions with the object of improving the standard of the club’s play in the big full-rink tournaments, and these, together with the champion singles, handicap singles and Tibbits’ pairs, were successfully finalised. Especial congratulations were extended to Mr W. Brydon on his success in winning the club championship.

The annual tourney was well patronised, 22 teams taking part. In view of the unsettled state of the weather, tlie executive considered it advisable to play a section away from home, arid this was made possible only by a sportsmanlike gesture on the part of their sister club, which generously placed th,e accommodation of their No. 1 gi'een at the club’s service. Several half-day tourneys Were played during the season, and were well supported and enjoyed. Although these events were inclined to interfere with club activities, they had proved a marked financial asset to the club.

The state of the green during the whole of the season had been excellent. Thanks were due to Mr Tibbits, green superintendent, and Mr Huyton, greenkeeper. for the valuable services rendered to the club during the season. Club Badges. The meeting authorised the executive to purchase club badges for which a suitable design was submitted by the secretary some time ago. For the purpose of raising funds, it was decided that a competition field day be arranged during the coming season. It was also recommended that a special sub-committee of three be appointed by the executive to deal with this and other matters relative to the raising of funds. A letter was sent to Mr F. L. Ross, Immediate past president, expressing regret at his illness and wishing him a speedy recovery. Sectional Play for Championship.

The championship singles competition next season will be played in sections. For the last two years this competition has been played under the two-life automatic draw system.

Handicap singles are also to be arranged. In connection with the pairs’ competition, for evening play, trophies have been donated by Mr T. Walder. It was decided to close the first draw game at 1.30 p.m. on the day of play, the game to commence at 1.45.
