Who Will Control Port Road?
No agreement has yet been reached between the Whangarei Borough Council and the County Council regarding control of the Kioreroa road. At yesterday's mooting of the Whangarei County Council a report was read of a conference hold with borough council representatives. The road had been inspected by both parties together. The county council had expressed a wish to control the road from Limeburner’s Creek to the wharf area boundary. It was the county's intention that the borough and the county should each have 50 per cent control of the bridge over the creek. It was on this point that the two bodies failed to agree, as the borough would not take any responsibility for the bridge nor did the county favourably consider taking complete responsibility for the whole of the bridge. "Under the circumstances it seems an arrangement could be reached only by appointing a commission to decide the issue,” said the chairman. Mr J. A. S. Mac Kay. On the motion of Cr. T. N. Blake, it was decided to adhere to the recommendation put forward by county delegates to the conference with borough council representatives.
