U.S. Out Of The Wood, Says New York Visitor.
I Special to “Northern Advocate.'! AUCKLAND, This Day. ••It can be staled quite definitely that the United States is now out of the woods,” said Mr. W. J. Wilbur, prominent New York city resident and investments councillor, a through passenger on the Monterey bonne- for a holiday in Melbourne. He said there had lately been marked improvement in unemployment conditions, and trends in the stock market lately had been most encouraging. Stocks had risen considerably, steel having jumped from 43 to 60. The rise was caused firstly by the Government's decision to spend 3.750.000 dolars on public works over a period of a year or two. and secondly by the subsiding of fear among the public, which was giving way to more optimistic feelings and confidence in the future.
