Chinese Celebrate War Anniversary: Bombs in Shanghai
(Received 8.30 a.m.) LONDON. July 7. 'THREE BOMBS THROWN SIMULTANEOUSLY ON THE SHANGHAI BUND AT 6 A.M. MARKED THE BEGINNING OF THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF THE SI-NO-JAPANESE HOSTILITIES. THE OBJECTIVES WERE A JAPANESE SENTRY POST, THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE JAPANESE GENDARMERIE, AND THE YOKOHAMA S'PECIE BANK. One Chinese was killed and one was injured. Japanese soldiers and police cordoned off the area. ■ '/ The Chinese, says a message from Shanghai, commemorated the first anniversary of the war by attacking the Japanese on a 25-mile front between Pengt-seh and Hukow on the south bank of the Yangtse. They claim to have retaken Hukow. The Japanese have bottled up numerous Chinese warships and junks on Lake Poyang, says a despatch from Tokio.
