Great Day At Rugby Park
A crowd of over 1500 at Rugby Park this afternoon made a fitting climax to Orphanage Day. The old timers turned out in force, only four of those selected being unable to put in an appearance. Among the absentees were the Finlayson brothers, whose father is seriously ill.
The players were piped on to the field, and received a tremendous ovation from the crowd. There was no sinecure about the football, every man giving of his best. There were more thrills than laughs. Stan Weston, one of the most senior players on the field, made schie typical spurts, and the handling was surprisingly sure. With Irvine hooking, the ball came to the Country half like a flash. The old 2-3-2 scrum, with rover, worked splendidly. Scores would have been made on several occasions had it not been for the splendid defensive work of the respective full-backs, Mac Kay and Carruth.'
Town forced twice, while Country had to seek refuge In this manner just before Wal Tucker shrilled the whistle with the slate clean —no score.
It had been a spectacular and ■ exciting match. In the curtain-raiser, City beat High School 12—6.
