Chinese Claim Important Success

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has informed the Chinese Embassy in London that Langfeng has been recaptured, with the infliction of heavy casualties on the Japanese. This frees the Luugha: railway between Kaifeng and KwoUoh.
Japanese remnants are being pursued by the Chinese, who are also surrounding and attacking Japanese reinforcements at Kwantai. Search for “Robin Hyde”
Japanese authorities, says a Shanghai message, are searching for the Auckland journalist, Miss Iris Wilkinson (“Robin Hyde”), who departed, riding a donkey, from Hsuchow to the north-eastern front, which is now overrun by Japanese troops retreating from Langfeng. She may possibly have taken refuge with missionaries, who are determined to rema;n at Hsuchow to safeguard Chinese refugees.. Jap General Recalled .A cable from Tokio states that the War Office has recalled LieutenantGeneral Kideki Tojo. chief of staff at Kwantung.
