Spaniards Bomb French Railway Station
(Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, May 27,
A message from Paris states that Spanish insurgent aeroplanes bombed and considerably damaged the railway station at Cerbere, on the French side of the Franco-Spanish frontier. Several coaches of a passenger train were hit, and two houses near the station were destroyed. Three persons were injured.
The French Prime Minister, M. Dsladier, has ordered a high military official to report on the bombardment, and take all necessary measures, including the despatch of anti-aircraft batteries, to prevent further raids. He has also ordered several French warships to strengthen the land batteries.
The Paris correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that the Government has ordered an inquiry to establish the responsibility for the bombardment. after which most energetic representations are proposed.
The bombardment occurred when most of the population were dancing in the main square in a local festival.
