Vice-Regal Visit To Islands

The Governor-General, Viscount Galway, accompanied, by -’Lady Galway, proposes to leave Auckland onJuly G for the purpose of paying official visits to Western Samoa. Niue, Rarotonga, and other’ islands in the Cook Group. Lord Galway expects to be absent from the Dominion for about six weeks. 1 Their Excellencies will travel in H.M.S. Leander, which, in the course of its autumn cruising programme, will visit the Pacific Islands at this particular time. The last Vice-Regal visit to the outlying territories administered by the New Zealand Government was made by Viscount Bledisloe in 1933, when, for reasons of economy, it was considered necessary to exclude sevei'al of the islands in the Cook Group which it had bean customary for His Majesty’s representatives to visit in the past.
The Governor-General will appoint the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, to be his deputy during his temporary absence from the Dominion.
