Rabbits Increasing

Whilst last season saw very few rabbits in, country districts in close proximity to Whangarei. there seems to have been an increase in the rabbit population this year. Except in a few areas, the pests are not easy to find in Northland. Last year sportsmen had difficulty in securing good bags, heavy rain, it was believed, drowning the young in the burrows, thus keeping down numbers. On one property during the week-end, however, a sportsman, in a couple of hours’ shooting, secured nine, and during the week a party brought in a bag of 40 rabbits —ample indication, that breeding conditions are improving, and that rabbits are on the increase.
