Blomfield In The Limelight

[Per Press Association. Copyright.] GISBORNE, This Day.

The wrestler, Meynell Blomfield, or bettor known- as “Lofty'’ Blomfield. made an application in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for a reduction in a maintenance order in favour of his former wife and two children, totalling £4/10/- a week. The order was made when he obtained a divorce twelve months ago. In evidence, Blomfield said he had kept up the payments until his American, trip, which had re-

sulted in a financial loss, and during which his present wife was operated on. He said he had to borrow £250, reaching home with four dollars in his pocket.

Blomfield said his taxable income in the United States was 450 dollars, his gross earnings being 950 dollars, including 250 dollars for the world championship bout. His Canadian earnings totalled 700 dollars. He still owed £l5O on his American debt.

The applicant claimed that his former wife frequently pestered him with summonses before wrestling contests, and much of his money had gone in defending court actions. After legal argument, the case was adjourned for further argument.
