In spite of threatening weather, there was a large crowd at the Auckland Racing Club’s Easter meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday, the crowd of 21,500 comparing with 18,500 on'the first day last year, on which occasion wet weather necessitated the postponing of the meeting.
The totalisator handled a 07,402, compared with £54,987 last year, an increase of £12,415. Concluding results:—
Great Northern Champagne Stakes, of 600 sovs.; two-year-olds; six furlongs.—(3) Russian Ballet, 8.8, 1; (2) Surmount, 8.10, 2; (4) Arvakur, 8.10, 3. Four other starters. Length and a-half; length and a-quarter. Time: 1.16. Mangere Steeplechase, of 350 sovs.; about miles. —(6) Neil, 10.5, 1; (1) Lueidus, 9.12, 2; (4) Smilin’ Thru, 9.0, 3. Four other starters. Half a length; two lengths. Time: 5.9 3-5. Onslow Stakes, of 350 sovs; two-year-olds; six furlongs.—(s) Philcourt, 7.7, 1; (1) Pocket Venus, 7.7, 2; (2) Olympus, 7.8, 3. Eleven other starters. Royevrus and Pocket Venus were coupled. A head each way. Time: 1.16.
Eden Handicap, of 350 sovs.; one mile.—(2) Mon Acre, 7.13, Ij (3) Balinavar, 8.7, 2; (4) Lady Meath, 9.0, 3. Fourteen other starters. A neck; a head. Time: 1.41.
