London Stock Exchange Improves
(Received 1.30 p.rn.) LONDON, April 15
Although there was little expansion in the business, the London stock market again showed a propensity for rapid improvement. Signs of reviving public interest, combined with the more settled political outlook, caused the bears to rush for cover. Shortness of stocks led to prices being sharply marked up. Gill-edged led the advance, followed by Dominions, with the exception of New Zealand, which remained sluggish.
Reports of Chinese successes stimulated Chinese bonds, while Japanese continued to fall. Austro-German issues failed to hold their recent improvement. Confidence was most marked in Industrials. Steels, engineering, aircraft and electrical shares were all supported, and the majority of leading miscellaneous industrials gained around 1/- on the day. Even rubbers were shaken out of lethargy, and recorded a sharp advance. Support for gold shares was mainly professional.
