Britain, U.S. May Share Canton, Enderbury

(Received 10 a.m.l , .NEW YORK. April 14,

Discussions between Britain and the United States concerning sovereignty over Canton and Enderbury Islands in the Pacific are proceeding along the lines of a possible condominion, says the Australian Associated Press.

No decision is expected for some time, but it will not be - a surprise if this is the final basis of a settlement. The talks are most friendly.

It is understood the United States Government emphasises that its interest in the Island is purely for civil aviation, thus there is no reason why it should not share the ownership.

, It is believed that Australia is agreeable to the condominion idea, although this has not been a brilliant success in the Hebrides, where it is complicated by racial and economic problems. These do not exist in Canton and Enderbury.
