The legal and finance committee recommended to the Whangarei Borough Council last night that a review-of the salaries of the library staff be deferred. in the meantime. In reply to a letter from Mr J. A. Murphy, Parahaki Street, stressing the necessity for the sealing of Parahaki Street, the works committee recommended that, as the sealing works programme'for this year had been completed and the vote wholly expended, this matter be kept in view for consideration when the schedule for next year is being prepared. Provision is to be made in the estimates for 1938-39 for the sum of £2OO for the re-instatement of water channels in the central portion of the town, Messrs. J. C. Williamson and Amalgamated Theatres are to be advised that the council is prepared to grant a lease of the Town Hall on the present conditions.
