WAIPU COVE DOMAIN BOARD’S REQUEST

The Waipu Cove Domain Board today repeated its request that the Whangarei County Council should apply for a grant to replace the bridge connecting the council’s' property with tha road at the Cove. Cr-. A. J. McKay understood that, having inspected the ground, the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr Armit, had suggested application being made for the restoration of the bridge washed sway by floods two years ago. Cr. F. Elliott: This is a riding matter, and I move that it be referred to the Waipu representative. Cr. McKay: The bridge will give access to county property, which is used by thousands of holiday-makers' from far and near. Cr. Elliott agreed to change his motion to the effect that the council apply for a grant when the next schedule was drawn up. “The bridge is one which is evidently much used by tourists, and, therefore, we may get liberal treatment from the department,” Cr. Elliott added. ' The chairman pointed out that the bridge would give access to county property only and would not be situated on a public road.
