WITHOUT ROAD FOR SIXTY YEARS

Although sections at Waikiekie had been in the family for 60 years, a surveyed access road had remained untouched, wrote Mr C. Fidgeon to the Minister of Public Works recently. Mr Pidgeon. suggested closing a portion of the old road, which would reduce the distance from the station to SO chains, including one bridge. The communication was referred to the Whangarei County Council to-day, asking for a report on the merits and urgency of the case, together with a statement as to whether the council would -contribute. The council decided to approach the Railway Department 'to ascertain whether legal access could be obtained on to and over the track.
