Private Mine Goes Out
With the exhaustion of readily available deposits the number of small mines worked in the vicinity of Hikurangi is gradually being reduced. The last to go out of existence was that operated for a considerable number of years by McKinlay brothers, and situated on Marua Road. Extensive borings proved that there were no workable supplies near the old mine, which has now been abandoned.
